Reminiscence is something that we all do and the older we get the more likely we are to fall back on our memories. This natural activity can have a great therapeutic effect for older people, who tend to forget recent events but vividly remember events from the past.

At Bishopscourt we use documentaries, movies and books to evoke memories. Reminiscence is facilitated by a staff member who stops the documentary or reading and starts a discussion on the subject, getting the residents to recount their own experiences.

Reminiscence brings a sense of belonging, well-being and confidence to the residents.
